The Harlem shake is an upper body dance style which involves shaking of the upper chest and shoulders. The dance move “Harlem shake” was introduced in 1981 by one resident of Harlem named “Al B”, and so this dance form called as the “Albee” in older days. “Harlem shake” came in the mainstream of dance styles in 2001, when famous G. Dep performed the Harlem shake in his music video “Let’s Get It”. It has become a very famous dance sensation, that’s far-reaching on top of the nation, at 30,000 feet. Many videos of “Harlem shake” were recorded on board planes, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) describes it as one instance of high-altitude dancing.

In the recent times, Colorado College’s ultimate frisbee team has become the part of this high altitude dance style by recording their video; when they were aboard on the Frontier Airlines Flight 157. Students of the Colorado College’s ultimate frisbee team said that before trying out this dance, they have took approval of the flight crew and get the permission to use the public address system for inviting passengers to join them. Teammate Gavin Nachbar said that, “video is a hand-held camera, so it’s shaking and looking a lot worse than it is. Fiat, an Italian automobile manufacturer, has unveiled its new model named Fiat 500 Turbo at Concorso Italiano in Italy. The model is likely to deliver the same performance, power and personalization of Cinquecento (previous model of Fiat), keeping intact the features of the iconic 500. The car has got vibrant styling and gives aerodynamic functionality. The Fiat 500 Turbo will arrive at the FIAT Studios with an approximate MSRP of $19,500 omitting the destination charge of $700. The expected price tag will make the Fiat 500 Turbo the most affordable turbo-charged vehicles in America.

The all new turbo will feature a single turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder along with twin intercoolers, sport-tuned suspension, muscular body kit and larger brakes. The engine of Fiat 500 Turbo delivers 135 horsepower and a torque of 150 lb-ft. The car is expected to provide fuel economy of 34 mpg on highway. It will also have a five speed manual transmission along with a 3.35 final-drive gear ratio for better acceleration. Over 300 students affiliated to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi went on a hunger strike, protesting against “lack” of basic facilities inside college and hostel premises, but medical services remained by and large unaffected on Tuesday.

The hospital authorities, however, fear the services will be affected with resident doctors, actively involved in patient care, threatening to join the strike.

“Our demands have not been met yet. Basic facilities like water, ceiling fan, water cooler and clean toilet are lacking in the hostel,” Karan, an MBBS student, who took part in the strike, said. Continue reading »

Number plate recognition and satellite technology with a global positioning satellite receiver are combined in new speed cameras to capture the positions of cars and then calculate an average speed over a distance. At two sites, one in Southwark, London, and the other A374 between Antony and Torpoint in Cornwall, the Home Office is testing the cameras. PIPS Technology Ltd, an American-owned company develops the ‘SpeedSpike’ system to calculate average speed between any two points in the network with a base in Hampshire. US firm PIPS Technology’s SpikeSpike devices, are amongst the latest instances of average speed cameras. After capturing an image of its license plate at two locations, they work on how fast a vehicle goes.

A serious accident occurred at the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) On Friday Afternoon. The accident occurred between two Lorries, one prime mover and one motorcycle on the PIE heading towards Tuas, near Pioneer Road. 2 are already dead and one seriously injured in this accident.

After this incident the affected part of the expressway was stopped up for almost four hours, from 3:30pm to 7:15pm. A 30 year old lorry driver and motorcyclist were pronounced dead on the scene at 3:45pm. Continue reading »

The Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale has generated a total sale of $52.4 million. In the Millennium Jewels Collection, 11 blue diamonds are a group of rare diamonds selected by Andrew Coxon, president of the De Beers Institute of Diamonds, to mark the turn of the millennium. In this sale the gemstone, originally from the De Beers Millennium Collection is one of 11 fancy blue diamonds which expected to sell between US$4.6-5.9m. But, London’s famed Moussaieff Jewellers Ltd.’s founder Alisa Moussaieff paid $6.4 million for this 5.16-carat blue diamond at Sotheby’s Hong Kong. According to report, the diamond was cut and polished by the Steinmetz Diamond Group. It was reported that only one blue diamond of such high caliber can be produced by mine each year.

Alisa Moussaieff said that she was very happy with price. Also, she said that “Well it’s an individual thing and people have got to like it and people have got to see the value in it, but we do see the value and I hope our clients will see the value as well.” Continue reading »
