Drugmaker Merck & Co. Inc. has reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit over an allegation that it unlawfully promoted the sale of painkiller Vioxx and performed illegal business practices under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the residents of Missouri who purchased this pain reliever for the treatment of arthritis conditions. Merck denies all the charges of wrongdoing asserted in the lawsuit, but has agreed to the lawsuit settlement. The settlement demands Merck to pay the authenticated claims presented by the Vioxx users along with the fees of the attorney and other costs.
