About GCE A – Level

In 2001, Advanced Subsidiary became available for the first time and the Advanced Subsidiary is offered in many subjects. A new way of facilitating staged assessment is the Subsidiary. The subjects which are content of the new A Level syllabuses have been sub-divided into two parts. First part is the AS syllabus content, which is expected to be covered in the first half of the course and the second part of the syllabus is generally referred to as A2, which is taken at the end of the second year of study. The Advanced Subsidiary is worth half the points of a GCE Advanced level qualification, in terms of the UCAS tariff.
