University of Jos was established in November 1971. The vision of University is to be an innovative institution with great interaction between ‘town and gown’. Nowadays, the university still carries a high responsibility of fashioning tastes and attitudes of the future. The university is committed to giving the education that is globally competitive and related to the requirements of today’s employer and the developing challenges of Nigeria and outside.

University of Jos is a federal university in Jos, Plateau State, central Nigeria. The school offers various courses in law, medicine, pharmacy, natural sciences, social sciences, the built environment including arts and humanities.

In 1972, the first students were admitted as pre-degree students with the first Bachelor of Arts degree program that begun in October 1973, then in October 1975, the Unijos was established by the military government under General Murtala Mohammed as a separate institution. Professor Gilbert Onuaguluchi was the first Vice-Chancellor of the Unijos. In October 1976, the classes began with 575 students spread over the existing four faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Natural Sciences and Medical Sciences at the University of Jos. In 1977, the post-graduate programs were added. Faculties of Law and Environmental Sciences were established and the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences were separated by 1978.
