‘Bonanza’ Star Pernell Roberts Died
A famous American TV actor and singer Pernell Roberts passed away at the age of 81 years after fighting Pancreatic Cancer at his home in Mailbu, California on Sunday, January 24, 2010. His funeral services were set on January 25th, 2010. He was famous for his hit western NBC’s TV show “Bonanza” in which he played the famous character as Adam, the eldest son of Ben Cartwright. He was also star of another hit medical drama TV series “Trapper John, M.D” as title name role.
Roberts married four times and he had only one son from first wife named Chris, who died at the age of 38 in a motorcycle accident in 1989. He married to Eleanor Criswell at the time of his death. Roberts loved cooking, reading literature, playing tennis, swimming and running etc.
He was well known for his famous serious character Adam in Bonanza tv series, and he earned many fans with this role, but then he left this show in 1965 after six season, some people also said that he was ruining his career by doing it. ‘Bonanza’ is one of the longest running series in television history. He also played as title role Dr. Trapper in “Trapper John, M.D” for seven seasons from 1979. He also played in Hollywood movie “Desire Under The Elms” in 1958, opposite actress Sophia Loren.
Robert also appeared in various tv series including, “Hawaii Five-O”, “Marcus Welby”, M.D.”, “The Virginian”, “Banacek”, “Mission Impossible”, “Ironside”, and “Mannix”. He moved to big theater in Hollywood where he featured in some big tv shows like, “Ride Lonesome”, “Desire Under the Elms”, “The Sheepman” etc. In 1956, he won a ‘Drama Desk Award’ for his fantastic performance in an off-Broadway production of “Macbeth.”.
