Nearly all of us have a sports icon or a team that we support or wish to win always. Everyone has his/her own way to show the love and support towards these sports personalities. Some fans offer prayers in the temples and churches while some shout and cheer up the team in the ground. However, some people have a really different way like shedding all their clothes to cheer their sports icons. At first it was the Poonam Pandey, an Indian model who promised to strip naked if India wins the World Cup. Poonam seemed to be following the footsteps of Argentinian Luciane Salazar and Paraguay’s Larissa Riquelme, who had promised to strip if the FIFA World Cup is won by their football teams. Following Poonam Pandey, Gehna vashishta – another Indian model promised to strip for supporting Indian boxer Mary Kom competing for a medal in the London Olympics. And now it’s Huang Shih-ting, a Taiwanese Sport Stripper.
This 23 year old Taiwanese girl has become the centre of discussions these days. Huang has posted her nearly naked photos with a tactically placed national flag over the internet, causing a storm on the web. But this was not to support any of the sportsperson or team. As per Huang, it was actually her way to show her anger. Confused? Actually the whole story starts from the London Olympics 2012. The national flag of the Republic of China (Taiwan) was removed from a line of national flags raised over Regent Street, central London on 24 July. The national flag was replaced with the flag of Taiwan’s Olympic committee a few days later, presumably due to political pressure from Chinese embassy. The entire nation (Taiwan) got angry on this and displayed their anger by protest. But as told earlier, Ms Huang Shih Ting has a really different way of displaying the anger.
She got clicked a set of pictures wearing just the national flag and put it over a social networking site. And she is an overnight celebrity now. According to her, she did this act for a cause, and the cause is to support Taiwanese athletes. Huang, who is a model based in Hsinchu in northern Taiwan has acted in music videos. She told that when the flag was removed from the London display, she felt really angry. She asked a friend to take provoking photo of her in a bikini top and the national flag covering the lower half of her body. On July 25, she posted the photo on her Facebook page with the caption ‘I love Taiwan’. The photo spread like a virus over the internet and has been shared thousands of times.
She has also posted for a set of even more offensive photos with the Taiwanese flag. Some of the photos are completely nude, with only flags and shadows covering her body. The Olympics symbol can be seen slightly over her breasts along with a ‘Go Taiwan’ caption written in Chinese. Many viewers have commented over these pics. Some male internet users have commented positively on her nationalism. Numerous Taiwanese people have even joked that the snaps have forced them to support the decision to take down the Taiwan flag in London, if it means Huang will take down hers. On the contrary, she has also been criticized for seeking attention with such an act, while some claim that she has disrespected the Taiwanese national flag.
