Saraswati Puja is the worship of Hindu god of education. Generally every year Saraswati Puja is performed during Basant Panchami and Navratri. On this year, Saraswati Puja is on 20th January, 2010 during Basant Panchami and October 13 to October 16, 2010 during Navratri. Saraswati’s birthday – Vasant Panchami is a Hindu festival celebrated every year on the 5th day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha. In Kerala Saraswati Puja is known as Vidyarambham which is observed on the Vijaya Dasami day. And in 2010 it is on 17th October, 2010. This is one of the largest events during Navratri in Kerala.
Saraswati devi is considered as consort of Brahma and daughter of Durga. Saraswati’s children are the Vedas, which are the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism.
Traditionally on this festival children are taught to write their first words. On this day people wear yellow garments and also prepare yellow sweet within families. As per Bengali calendar Saraswati Puja day falls in Falgun month and it is also celebrated in Nepal and Bangladesh. Saraswati Pooja Mantra English Translation
“May Goddess Saraswati, who is fair like the jasmine-colored moon, and whose pure white garland is like frosty dew drops; who is adorned in radiant white attire, on whose beautiful arm rests the veena, and whose throne is a white lotus; who is surrounded and respected by the Gods, protect me. May you fully remove my lethargy, sluggishness, and ignorance?”
