Iowa Man Arrested for Sending 500 ‘Stolen’ Texts
On 19 February, according to Iowa City Police, Christopher W. Smead, 21 years old took a mobile phone from the men’s locker room of Core Fitness Center. Police also added Smead used the cell phone without the owner’s permission and from the stolen phone; he has send over 500 text messages and making phone calls. Police said text messages was began to send at 1.55 a.m. on 19 February and continued until Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. Over 500 text messages were sent between 1:55 a.m. and 11:43 p.m. on Feb. 19, these records were shown at Verizon network, and for February 20, there were not any records available according to police.
Police said that he was charged with fifth degree theft and Smead also admitted for taking and using the phone. The University Of Iowa Department Of Public Safety charged to Smead with an unrelated offense. Smead was seen in UI library with a handgun tucked into the back of his pants on January 30.
According to the police, Smead was being charged with carrying the air pistol and then he did not appear in the court. Smead pleaded guilty when arrested for the theft charge and is currently serving a 30 day sentence for his offenses.
