On March 19, 2010, a finance minister of Tamil Nadu state, “K Anbazhagan” presented budget for the year 2010-2011 in the Assembly-Secretariat complex. The deficit budget was presented of Rs 3,396.45 crore and abstained from imposing fresh taxes.
As declaring the fourth budget of the DMK government, the minister said there is reduction in taxes and no fresh taxes are introduced. New budget shows increment in the allocations for scheduled castes sub-plan from 567 crore to Rs 3,828 crore. This new budget has brought good news for the schedule castes.
For the welfare of the women, the state government has increased the allocation for Moovalar Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Memorial Assistance. The amount is increased from 20000 to 25000.
In the Tamil Nadu Budget 2010, Rs. 22 crore has been provided for the expansion of Tamil Nadu State Wide Area Network. And this network will connect headquarter of various government departments, government offices at the district, divisional and block levels via internet. For pregnant women, Iodized salt would be given at free of cost through fair price shop.
Under agriculture scheme, to provide various welfare benefits to poor landless agricultural labourers and small and marginal farmers and Agricultural Labourers Welfare Board, 1.73 crore persons from 76 lakh families have registered so far. Rs.415 crores has been provided to 5.10 lakh beneficiaries so far for welfare assistance. To implement this scheme a sum of Rs.152 crores has been allocated in the coming financial year.
If any family is having annual income of less than Rs.24000 can also be benefited which will be launched by Hon’ble in June and benefited to one crore families. The name of this scheme is “Chief Minister Kalaignar’s Insurance Scheme” for life saving treatments. For this scheme in the budget, a provision of Rs. 200 crore has been made.
