Customers are paying by credit card should authenticate the transaction with an additional PIN, which can be generated by the issuing bank’s website or during the payment transaction as per RBI Guidelines, that has been started from 01.08.2009.

The system will operate as under given briefly:
- Reserve Bank of India has been set up Electronic method of payment which provides you an option to pay your electricity bills directly from your bank account. Shortly after the due date your bank account would be debited by the new payment mechanism.
- Payment instructions would be issued by them electronically by their banker to the Clearing Authority and the Clearing Authority would supply debit reports to the bank with which you uphold the specified bank account. The branch will debit your account and indicate the debit entry as “ECS” in your pass book / statement of account.
- There is no need to open any new bank account for the use.
- For your authorization you have the option to indicate the upper limit. The bill amount will not be debited to your bank account, if in any month your electricity bill amount exceeds the mandate. In such cases, a message will be printed on their bill and you will have to pay that bill in the normal manner at their collection center.
- You will also have the option to stop payment of the bill up to the “due date” stated on the bill.
- If payment is made through ECS, then Consumers are eligible for 0.5% discount on bill payable subject to maximum of Rs. 250/- per bill. After successful ECS operations, discount on ECS will be reflected in the subsequent month’s bill. There is no maximum amount per transaction.
- Consumers can avail 1% additional by opting for this scheme, incase tariff provides for Prompt Payment Incentive. Under this scheme, deduction of monthly bill amount by ECS will take place 7 days from the date of the bill. This discount will be replicate in the subsequent month’s bill after ECS operations.
- This would be an additional mode of payment and would be optional. You will continue to receive their bill in the usual manner. By giving an advance notice of four weeks, you would have the right to withdraw from this mode of payment.
- You are asked to fill in a Mandate Form, if agreeable to participate in this new payment mechanism. The information to be supplied should be accurate, complete in all respects and duly certified by your bank. You are requested to submit the one copy of duly filled in mandate form to your bank for their record.
- The details provided by you will be kept private and would be utilized only for the reason of effecting payments of electricity bills.
- At respective Divisional Offices, Mandate forms are available and accepted Customer Care Centres.
